This book has been written primarily towards helping the students of electronic technology/engineering to reach their goal and to achieve their potential; in order to embrace their future responsibilities. It is also felt that this book can be a refresher (background reading/adult continuing education) to technicians and technical personnel engaged in the servicing and maintenance of electronic equipment/systems. It provides an integrated treatment of principles, practical application, the use of integrated circuit (IC) in logic systems/signalling/plc. The book is intended to be an introduction to the broad field of electronic with emphasis on some of the most important circuits and devices and their practical application including diodes, rectifiers, bipolar junction transistors (BJT) and field-effect transistors (FET); IC; AC and DC amplifiers, noise in electronic circuits, stability and thermal stability factor, feedback amplifiers, digital electronics, stabilized power supplies and an introduction to the 555 Timer IC and its practical application in present day industrial circuits, and in particular to the application of electronics in the motor vehicle industry.
The objective is to take the beginners to a point where they can make effective use of modern IC circuits in the design of simple digital and analog systems; consequent thereof, the design, operation and application of gates, flip-flops, registers, counters, logic units, memory locations, data, and integrated circuits (IC) are described in detail and in elementary term.
The text includes numerous worked examples which supplement the characteristics and design principles described; most chapters end on a self-assessment, that is, a large number of unsolved problems, with answers.
To this end, the book may be easily adapted for a one-term course at freshman level and with the support of an electronic workbench laboratory, an appropriate MultiSim computer program, it provides an integrated treatment of principles, practical applications, problem solving and design techniques.

About the Author
Born in Guyana (formerly British Guiana), professionally educated and trained in the United Kingdom (UK), obtaining both his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and now living with his wife Barbara in Toronto, Canada. Ashton Jairam is a Chartered Electrical Engineer (C.Eng.) and an administrator with an international background of diversified experience in electronics and electric utility industry, with special emphasis on Human Resources Development. Ashton has been involved in professional training and development in both electronics and electric utility services for more than twenty years. His experience includes Training Manager, GEC Training Department; Senior Lecturer, Gulf Polytechnic and Guyana Govt. Technical Institute; Product Supervision Engineer, Smiths Industries; Technical Adviser and Chief Design Engineer, Crossfield Electronics. He is currently involved in system analysis programs, programmable logic controller (PLC), personal computers and human resources development and uses both Microsoft Windows and Power Points to write a wide range of simple modular training programs supported by CorelDRAW and MultiSim for graphic production.
