Be Still
Be still,
And let the creative juices flow;
Be still,
And let my Voice become clear;
Be still,
And know My all-powerful Presence;
Be still,
And let My Love empower you to live My plan for you;
Be still,
And know that I am here, always and forever!
Quiet Times
Before I get too busy
With the doings of my day,
I heed the call of the Lord
To sit a spell and pray.
I greet my day with open hands,
Seeking God’s will, not my own.
I’ve learned over the years,
If I’m quiet enough, I will be shown.
My mind can get so anxious
As my thoughts flit here and there.
My day is lived in burdened chaos
Needing the peace of God’s loving care.
I pray my prayers in earnest,
And my heart is gently stirred.
My busy mind quietens-
I’m encouraged by God’s Holy Word.
I let go of the plans
That dance around in my head,
Asking God to be my partner-
Letting Him take the lead instead.
God’s way is so much better,
Not that problems don’t appear-
It’s just that with God in charge,
I live my day in the absence of fear.
Sometimes it is the writings of another
That capture inspiration on a page.
These graced insights continuing to bless us,
Although written in a much earlier age.
Sometimes it is a writer
From our own day and time,
Who reveals God’s enduring love,
Inviting us to “Let go; come be mine!”
When we hear the Lord speak to us
And decide to put our plans at rest,
Our faith in hindsight grows-
His plans were for our very best.
These quiet times are such an anchor-
As my life boat is bounced around.
It is in God’s awesome presence
That no safer harbor is to be found.
So, “Good morning God,
I thank you for this day.
And I thank you, too, for the invite
To sit a spell and pray.”

The And of Jesus
Jesus called
The Jew and the Gentile;
He shared a meal with
Tax payers and tax collectors;
He befriended both
The saint and the sinner;
He touched
The clean and the unclean;
He showed compassion
To the rich and the poor;
He encouraged
The young and the old;
His disciples were both
Male and female;
His ministry included all peoples

About the Book
These days many people are finding it difficult, if not impossible, to experience God in their lives. Some are finding it less and less necessary, or even desirable, to seek the presence of God. Our Everywhere God! is a collection of poems that draws insight from the experiences of everyday life and acts as a reminder of the presence of God in all things. Written in a manner both simple and profound, Our Everywhere God! invites readers to recognize and celebrate God’s presence in prayer, nature, relationships, and suffering.
Rene’e Hilton-Taylor found the inspiration to write this book during times of quiet prayer. These poems have challenged her to come out from underneath a bushel of fear and doubt in order to let her light shine. It is God’s presence within that allows the divine to be experienced everywhere.
The light in the window
Gave me such peace.
It shown in the darkness,
And my worries released.
When a lamp gives off light
Within a very dark room,
It dispels the unknown questions
And the feelings of unwelcomed gloom.
When light shines within our darkness,
Then we are able to see
All the things that hold us back
From God’s call, “Come follow Me.”

Rene’e Hilton-Taylor is a retired teacher and counselor. She holds a master’s degree in pastoral studies from the University of Loyola New Orleans. She directs individual and conference retreats at Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat House in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. She lives in Sunset, Louisiana, with her grown children and their families.
