About the Book
Looking through his crystal clear rose colored lenses, Arner examines his boyhood as he searches for the answer to the age old question each of us asks from time to time, “Why am I who I am?” Through his warm, rich, engaging, and humorous style, readers meet and get to know unforgettable characters like The Mastermind, Jerry Yellsalot, and Claude Hopper as they explore and relive hilarious life-altering events told through the eyes of the boy who actually lived them. Hilarious and thought provoking, stories like Fudge? What Fudge?, The Stagecoach, Setting Pins, and Trust Me, This Won’t Hurt, lead the reader through the maze we call childhood and the pattern-maker's mold of our teen years through which the die is made and cast that shapes us into the adults we become. Travel back now to a time not so long ago when the world seemed to spin a little slower and life was a lot simpler; a time when dreams were dreamed and adventures were lived and a boy grew into a man.
About the Author
Steve Arner was born in Aurora, Colorado, the youngest of two children. Since his father was a career Army soldier, Steve traveled extensively and lived in a variety of locations, including two three-year tours in Germany, while growing up. This diverse and experience-rich environment laid the foundation for, as well as shaped much of what Steve is today. Steve’s father retired from the Army in the spring of 1966. Not quite two years later, Steve answered his nation’s call to serve by enlisting in the Navy. Through a series of 10-seconds or less career decision events, Steve found himself serving in the Navy’s nuclear power program aboard submarines, earning his coveted Silver Dolphins in 1972. The rigors of life as a “nuke” and life aboard submarines in general finished the foundation upon which Steve would build a career. Opting out of active duty Naval service in the summer of 1976 to spend more time with his family, Steve enlisted in the Navyl Reserves, where he spent an additional 20 years, finally retiring in the summer of 1996 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. In his civilian career, Steve has worked exclusively in the nuclear industry. Beginning as an Equipment Operator, progressing through service as a journey-level millwright, into maintenance supervision and management, and on into consulting service, Steve has kept himself close to his roots and the work he enjoys. Along the way, together with his wife and best friend Colleen, Steve raised three sons and a daughter. Family togetherness has long held a pivotal role in his family’s life, and reunions and visits with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins were favorite activities. Having recently celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary, Steve and Colleen now call Las Vegas, Nevada, home and enjoy spending time with their family.
