About the Book

The title of this book serves as nothing more than a play on words for the grammatical content that separates the front cover from the back and is essentially what it states in the headline. Three totally separate stories of three totally separate individuals whose lives are transformed by chance events that occur during the course of a perfectly normal day of work and leisure and become intermingled with others who are touched by the ripple or butterfly effect of those events. 'The Cellar' is set in the sixties and involves a young couple who inherit an old dilapidated cottage with an alleged dark history. Mike Simmons accidently stumbles on a time portal in the cellar which allows him to travel back and forward to a specific place during the Second World War where the effects of an unexpected incident are dragged back into the present with dire consequences. 'Money For Nothing' mirrors the effects of what can happen to a young man's friendship with a group of vagrants who befriend him, when he finds a winning Lottery ticket and their lives are catapulted into a new dimensional lifestyle. Money really does become the root of all evil as the recipient of that ticket finds out to his dismay. 'Power and the Gory' steps into the criminal underworld of a one horse town where a series of events and in- fighting touch the lives of three unsuspecting people in a spectacular way and brings mayhem to the main street. In the time it takes a lift to move between floors, a million things could have altered the course of what you thought your day was going to turn out to be. It can take you up or take you down. I hope having read this book your pleasure is elevated in some small way.

About the Author

Almost thirty years ago the author of this book was made redundant from his work as a Textile Technician after a mere eighteen years in the trade. Not only had his job gone but virtually the entire industry had disappeared and he had to do something to fill those empty monotonous days of despair. Writing for a living had never been on his life's agenda though he always enjoyed writing as a form of stimulation and pleasure and had written several small pieces for a local newspaper and short magazines full of anecdotes and jokes for charity fund raising events. 'Behind the Fuse Box' was his first brief ten page story written in that dark period of unemployment and was submitted to television and film studios as a possible fantasy drama piece. He had the honour of being turned down by Alan Parker at Columbia Studios who found it interesting but not suitable for their current schedules which was the same reply he received from all the other leisure companies he approached and funnily enough from every company he applied to for employment. It languished along with other collective pieces from that time, in the bottom draw of a cupboard for some twenty five years and was never touched until he decided to compile a Short Story book as a Christmas present for his Granddaughter Jaid in 2010. Along with Limericks and amusing Ditty's, Behind the Fuse Box was resurrected and re-written into a longer story and retitled 'The Cellar' which he considers his first interesting attempt at a story with a twist. Two more stories were added, re- written and expanded into their present form in this book. All three are considered to be an easy read and retain that nice little twist which he hopes you will all enjoy.
