About the Author

Paul Roth has been a serious photographer for many years. His subjects vary from nature to abstracts and to various forms of transportation. The great majority of images have been taken on color slide film and recently on digital media. His interest in railroads began prior to his ‘teens and has been continued all his life. He has photographed railroad subjects in 48 states, 4 provinces and 15 foreign countries. Retired from a career in systems engineering and computer science, he has begun to publish and display his many railroad photographs. His first book, Railroad Vistas: The Rail Landscape of Western Pennsylvania, was published in 2008. Paul’s photographs have appeared in TRAINS, TRP and RAILS NORTHEAST. His railroad photos have been displayed at libraries in Pittsburgh, PA and Sarasota, FL, at which locations he lives seasonally. He is currently planning to publish a photographic book on diesel locomotives of the small railroads.
