The reality of the situation was less believable than any fantastic story I could have concocted to explain it. I had stumbled into a load of money for doing nothing more than writing a few slanted stories. No matter how rewarding it was to have and hold, the check didn't represent a reward to me; more like a generous bonus. The stars had aligned for us. Everything had fallen into place just so that we could carry out this admittedly bold undertaking. We hadn't broken any laws and our interpretation of the `spirit' of the code was rightfully our own. This was the nature of entrepreneurship and of life and law, and the check was only an example of this great American dream.
