Once upon a time there was a caterpillar named Katie. Katie wasn’t just any caterpillar. She was a Christian caterpillar and that made her special. Katie lived in a big Oak tree with her mom and dad and lots of friends. Katie has a special place in the big Oak tree. It is the largest branch that overlooks the Stamey’s home. The Stamey’s have a son named David. David was 5 years old and the only child the Stamey’s had. David loved going outside and playing with Katie and her friends, because Katie’’s friends were David’s friends. He had a whole tree of friends!
One sunny morning Katie saw a lot of people coming and going from David’s house. They all had sad looks on their faces and Sissy the little robin, came down from the top of the tree to see what was going on. She too saw David and all the people with sad looks on their faces….

About the Book
David Stamey, a young boy, and Katie the Christian Caterpillar, who lives in the old oak tree outside of David’s window, are very good friends. As a Christian, Katie has helped David learn a lot about life, God’s love, and a place called heaven. Today, however, David has a very serious problem. His grandfather has died, and David doesn’t really understand what that means. It’s up to his good friend, Katie, to help him understand God’s promise for death and what that means for his grandfather. Katie has also experienced the death of loved ones. She, too, lost her grandfather and knows what it’s like to miss someone important to you. Katie shares the story of how her grandparents built their cocoons, turned into butterflies, and flew away to heaven. But will that be enough to give David the peace he needs to accept his grandfather’s passing? Join David, Katie, and all of their oak tree friends as they work together to learn another lesson about the power of God’s love.
About the Author
Susan Thompson was born in Dallas, Texas. In 1996 she experienced a spiritual awakening and started teaching children’s church, which is where she developed Katie the Christian Caterpillar. She is the mother of three daughters and grandmother to five boys. She currently lives in Lake Whitney, Texas, with her husband, Charlie.
