About the Book

Beauty...It is not the sap within the furrowed bark, Nor a wing attached to a claw, But rather a garden forever in bloom and A flock of angels forever in flight.

About the Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Gary Adams received his Master's Degree from UCLA in 1964 and has written several children's books, including'The Little Clock Who Had No Hands" and "So Flat, So Deep, So Far". His initial interest in writing children's stories began years ago when he would tell his five daughters bedtime stories as they were growing up. From those stories, "The Ladybug Story" was born. Gary Adams may be unique among writers, as most of his seventy plus years were spent either playing or coaching baseball. He was the captain of the UCLA baseball team which he played for from 1959 to 1962. Later he became a college baseball coach, and continued coaching for forty-one years (thirty years as head baseball coach for UCLA). He retired in 2004 as the winningest coach in UCLA history with 1,172 wins. He has coached forty-six major league players while at UCLA (second most in collegiate baseball history), and was inducted into the prestigious NCAA Baseball Hall Of Fame in 2004. In 2011, he was inducted into the illustrious UCLA Hall Of Fame, and this year was selected as Bruin Of The Year. Gary has five grown daughters and now lives with his wife Sandy on a small ranch in Bear Valley Springs, California, where he manages his own small vineyard and enjoys spending time with his dogs and Arabian endurance horses. He is still writing. ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR Kimberly Atkins attended Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, California. She is the author's daughter, one of five daughters who grew up listening to her father's bedtime stories. Kimberly has given life and color to each character in this story, and her excellent water color paintings are the "picture perfect" way to know each of the characters even better.
