About the Book
A young Garifuna boy, Pepe, is forced to travel to Belize after his grandmother becomes ill. While in Belize with his uncle, Pepe faces challenges that teach him lessons about himself and others. With nothing but his drums, Pepe beat the drums to the rhythm of his heart; shaking up the town, and gaining him love and respect from the community and his peers.
About the Author
Misty Rwanda Hernandez, a native of Belize, Central America is a Garifuna woman. As a Garifuna, Misty emphasizes on the importance of preserving the culture, and passing down the language from generation to generation. UNESCO proclaimed the Garifuna Culture as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity. Misty Hernandez currently resides in New York City, and studied Criminal Justice and Public Administration at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Her long term goals include creating more books that will be beneficial to the Garinagu people and others.
