Why me, God? Why did you do this to me? On the morning of November 12, 1990 I sat up in bed and shouted it out loud just after opening my eyes. I threw the eye glasses, which had been prescribed 6 weeks earlier, across the room. Imagine, awakening and your vision is destroyed. A guy always trying to do the right thing, who felt close to God. My life was destroyed. Where do I go from here? Why must I fail in everything I do? I put my head in my hands and started to cry.
At the age of 26 I was on my way to fulfilling my dream, which was just short of becoming a reality. I had earned my certified public accountant license (CPA) by the age of 24. I had worked for the 3rd largest accounting firm internationally. I was also enrolled in Widener University Masters in Taxation program and on my way to earning a degree in taxation. My goal was to eventually open my own small accounting firm and then, and only then, would my dreams be fulfilled. I was soon to be engaged and moving onto the next chapter in my life. I had it all planned out. At the age of 32, I would be married, have a family and become a successful entrepreneur. This was my dream and it was about to come true.
But as I awoke that morning, it all suddenly came to a grinding halt, in just six short weeks. A life, possibly like yours, that was full of aspirations, goals to be accomplish and dreams to be lived – had just been destroyed. The events in this book will demonstrate, even if you lose everything, you will always have HOPE. No matter how difficult or tragic your life circumstances may become, above all else, NEVER, EVER give up HOPE. You too can create miracles in your life. This is my story of overcoming impossible odds and rebuilding a life – again.
(Jeremiah 29:11). “For I know the plans I have for you,” declared the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Please God, no! I’ll take anything but this. Don’t take this away from me!
In early September 1990, my parents had purchased a rental property in Wildwood NJ. Eager to see the house, I drove from Philadelphia to the Jersey Shore, with my brother Mark and his friend as passengers. I was having a hard time reading some of the highway signs that were in the distance. As I got closer to the signs, I was able to read them, though it took a few precious seconds off my attention to the road. I asked my brother Mark if he could read the signs aloud.
Why am I having a hard time seeing those big signs?” I had driven this way countless times before,” I said to myself. I didn’t give it much thought, until I went to work the next week.
While at work, I noticed something strange seemed to be happening, as I was looking at a client’s document, containing columns of numbers. The column on the right seemed to just disappear – vanished; gone. I turned my head to the right to look with my left eye and I could see the column easily. Huh, that seemed strange. But since I was very busy, I didn’t pay too much attention to it.
A few days later it happened again. What is going on? I put my hand over my left eye and tried to see the column, with my right eye. Only one problem, it wasn’t there. It just disappeared.
