Homeward Angel

Okay. What was wrong? Clarice Marie’s pace had slowed to almost a complete halt. She walked to the edge of the sidewalk and shaded her eyes with her hand as she began examining each rooftop. She was suddenly trembling. Backing up, she let her body fall onto a bench. She stared blankly as tears filled her eyes. The tears were more than Jesse could handle. “Clarice Marie. Why are you crying? And, what were you looking for on the rooftops?” Clarice’s eyes were so filled with tears that she could only be sure she was talking with Jesse by the sound of his voice. It was then that Jesse noticed a small envelope clenched tightly in her hand. “What’s this”? Jesse was trying to speak as calmly and gently as he could. Clarice Marie looked like she was ready to bolt in an instant. To answer him, Clarice handed him the envelope and simply said, “Read it”. She crossed her legs and swung one foot back and forth, as she waited for his response. The letter was short and to the point… Miss Wesley, Just a little note to let you know that I know where you are. I’ll be seeing you real soon. We’ve got a lot to catch up on, and I can’t wait! Oh, and I haven’t forgotten the way we parted. You’ll pay dearly for that. Never far away, DH
