The book’s lyrical words and colorful, vibrant, real-life illustrations capture the environment of the rink, complete with local logos, while also highlighting a young player’s dedication and excitement playing the game.The author, Ashley Brennan, with her heartfelt rhyming verse, and the illustrator, Elaine Felos Ostrander, with her bold portraits of skaters in action, both portray the youth hockey scene from firsthand knowledge, because each of them is a parent or grandparent of current youth hockey players. They’ve witnessed the infectious spread of hockey fever!
About the Author
Ashley Brennan received her BA as well as her Masters Degree in Administration of Justice, concentrating in International law from Salve Regina University. She was also a hard working and competitive collegiate basketball player at SRU. Whether patrolling the beaches of Yarmouth as a lifeguard during the summer or as a realtor on Cape Cod taking clients out on tours to find their perfect Cape Cod escape, she has always called Cape Cod her home. Ashley married Rich Brennan a professional Hockey player, who played in the NHL, the AHL and for a few European Elite teams. For fourteen years, hockey not only became her life but also her passion. When Rich retired, they moved back to Cape Cod with their two boys, Jack and Logan. Today Ashley shuttles her boys back and forth to hockey practices and games as a part of the wonderful world of youth hockey, while working for a national realty firm. She developed her love of lyrical rhymes at an early age. . She says that at the age of 6 she memorized all the words from the Cat in the Hat, by her favorite children’s author, Dr. Seuss. Her passion for lyrical rhyme and her love of Cape Cod and hockey, magically collide in this masterfully illustrated rhyming verse children’s book called “Hockey! Hockey!” Through a chance meeting at a youth Hockey game she met an artist whose grandchildren played on the same team as her sons. They combined their efforts to publish this colorful and lyrical book. This is Ashley’s first published book but her next book: “What does it mean we are all going green?” is already in the works.
