God gifts each of us with our own story that we can then tell to His glory to encourage, uplift and most importantly, bring others nigh unto Him. My story is about brain surgery, a visit from Jesus, and receiving the calling to a deeper prayer life while hospitalized. I pray it will bless you and encourage you.
In early summer 2010, increasingly random dizzy spells and a very weak left leg and foot prompted the necessity for an MRI of my brain. The culprit for my symptoms was revealed: a tumor was sitting directly on the motor nerve strip for my left lower extremities, and it had also attached itself to the main vessel which drains blood back out of the brain, causing a blockage. Brain surgery was the only option.
In preparing for the surgery and the subsequent lengthy hospital stay, claiming the promises of God contained in the Bible had given me a calmness of spirit and a sense of confident anticipation for the surgery’s outcome.
I expected the best, in spite of some dire possibilities my husband Jack and I had necessarily been briefed about by the neurosurgeon, due to the tumor’s location in my brain.
What I did not expect was for God to choose the morning of July 20, 2010 to bless me with the first of two glorious, life-changing revelations.

As she lay on a gurney awaiting surgery, Catherine closed her eyes to visualize the comforting message of the psalm her husband was reading aloud. Moments later, she felt pressure on her shoulder. Catherine opened her eyes expecting to see her husband, but instead, saw a large hand turned so she could clearly see the nail hole in His palm. Catherine was filled with joy. Jesus was with her. After the surgery as she lay in the intensive care unit for days, Catherine details how God pulled her closer and revealed how prayer would become an integral part of her healing journey.

Catherine Reed is an ordained deacon and prayer chain volunteer for an international prayer outreach ministry. In 2010, her personal prayer ministry was directed to an even deeper level by God while she was hospitalized for surgery to remove a brain tumor.
