About the Book

This book 'The Musings of a Young Girl' is written by Rebecca Mary John, a young girl of 12 years. She was born in Kerala, India and did her early school education there. When she was seven years old she came to Dubai, UAE. Rebecca composing poems since the tender age of eight. Her poems are based on various topics and mostly related to her age .While going to school in her father’s car she noted things around her & started discussing and conjuring poetry. Thus her early poems took concrete shape mostly while travelling. She used to jot down these lines on bits of paper and once she came back home she would put the finishing touches. The journey from the early poem ‘Torn Shaun’ to ‘The Cross’ depicts her progression as a poetess. The steady progress over the years is clearly seen in this book where her poems are displayed in the order of age (with the exception of the introductory poem ‘A Poetess’ Journey’.).Rebecca is also a meritorious student. Additionally, she is a voracious reader who also engages in coin collection, stamp collection and singing.

About the Author

PROFILE OF REBECCA MARY JOHN Background – Rebecca started writing poems since the tender age of 8 years. While going to school in her father`s car she noted things outside & started discussing and conjuring poetry. So her early poems took concrete shape mostly while travelling. She used to jot down these lines on bits of paper & once she came back home she would put the finishing touches. Her latent talent of writing in conjunction with her wide reading empowered her with phenomenal speed. One striking example is worth mentioning about her poem `Our Loving Pappa & Mamma `- Her maternal uncle Retd. Lt. Col. GP Kurien stays in Baroda, Gujarat (India).In their church there is an elderly couple who were completing 50 years in their marital life. To honour this couple Rebecca was told to frame a few lines at a very short notice. By God`s Grace she put pen to paper and within two hours this poem was born. It was well appreciated and this was the driving force which made her family think about publishing a poem book. Her all round capabilities are listed below – 1. She has written around 30 poems on various topics till date. The inspiration behind each poem is unique & is mentioned separately. 2. Class topper in Grade 3, 4, 5, 6 in INDIAN HIGH SCHOOL, Dubai, UAE (CBSE-I International Curriculum). Her poems have been well commended by her Class teachers & Principal. 3. Presently she is the Chief Editor of her Class Magazine. 4. She is also part of the Recess Radio team as a Radio Jockey. 5. She has uploaded a video which can be seen on youtube.com of her enacting ‘Mark Antony on Julius Caesar’s Funeral’ with the title ‘Rebecca- Mark Antony’s Speech’. 6. First in speech in Inter School Competition, Kerala (Marthoma Residential School, Kerala in the year- 2007). 7. Part of the Student Council in IHS Dubai (Head Monitor 2011-12). 8. Outstanding performance in ASSET in the years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. 9. Participated in Group Song, Group Dance and Group Recitation in IHS, Dubai. 10. Date of Birth- 12/12/2000
