Life was good but a main ingredient was missing, you needed to share it with someone, it is all well and good seeing the magnificent places and sights of the world but if you have no one to discuss and enjoy it with, it can soon loose its attraction. ‘Hello’ she said as he was reading the morning paper seated outside a tea house in Windermere. Looking up he saw a very pretty young woman in a blue cardigan and black slacks, she was a little over five feet five inches, light brown hair and a good, not to fair a complexion. ‘Hello’ he said and instantly became interested in this attractive young person. Sally who was sleeping at his feet woke up and started to growl softy, ‘it’s alright Sally my girl she’s a friend’. ‘I see the pound has taken another dip’ she said pointing to the newspaper. ‘Yes’ he said, ‘would you like a cup of coffee or maybe some tea’. ‘That would be nice, tea please’ she said taking a seat opposite him. He ordered tea and asked whether she was interested in financial matters. ‘Very much’ she said, ‘I have a few pounds invested but the returns are so small it doesn’t seem to be worth while’. ‘Ah, but from small acorns big trees grow’ he said trying to act like some financial guru. ‘Well, with the number of acorns I have’ she said giving him a beautiful smile, ‘it’s going to take ages for even a sapling to appear’. He looked at her and her at him and he thought, maybe something good could come from being with this woman, could she fill that void of loneliness? While he was looking at her she thought, ‘could I have hit the jack-pot here? She had done her homework and knew something about him, financially that is. And him, he knew nothing about her, this was the first time he had set eyes on her, and his eyes set upon something he liked very much, not only was she very pretty but she had a quality of intelligence about her. Charles was not someone who struck up a relationship quickly, during his life he had been let down by many who he had helped and given money to, even family, and after a while it left a bad taste in the mouth. But here in front of him was a young lady who genuinely had an interest in him, and like many a male, a pretty anklet turns a man’s head……not to mention the rest of her.

About the Book
A short story of manipulation and subterfuge with greed being the driving force. Charles, a philanthropist in a way, wins a great deal on the lotto. After looking after his charities and other special interests, he decides to do some travelling to places he always wanted to see. However, on his travels, there is one important ingredient missing, and that is to have someone to share it with. Enter Jade, a strikingly beautiful young woman who shares Charles’s interest in travel, and within a short time, they get married. He buys her all she wants, and still she wants more. His life becomes very unhappy with Jade, compounded by a pain in his side, which, after a visit to his doctor, is diagnosed as cancer. Devastated, he finds the nearest park to sit in and pour out his grief. As he is about to put his head into his hands, his attention is diverted to a young woman, not beautiful in the sense as Jade but beautiful in her own right, propelling herself in a wheelchair with a lovely smile on her face greeting all and sundry. He forgets his troubles and is determined to find out who she is. On finally meeting her, he finds out she is a violinist whose ambition in life is to form her own group. He now knows he has a purpose in life, and so the tail unfolds. And Jade? Well, there is a twist in the tale for her.
About the Author
William was born in London in 1940 and grew up during the Blitz. He vividly remembers seeing a V1 flying bomb flying over their house in Blackheath, London. At the age of seven, the family moved to South Africa. After leaving school, he joined his father’s marketing research business, giving him the untold opportunity to visit many towns and cities throughout Southern Africa. He later managed his own business and acquired his pilot’s license, giving him the means to visit customers in different parts of the country. He returned to England many years later and now resides in Norwich.
