About the Book

This little book has been compiled from many years of writing poems (verse): about sixty on reflection, and I have split it into sections because I want it to be mainly fun for readers who can choose their own interests. I have always tried to avoid obscurity or difficult phrasing so that although I call it a book of poems I am well aware that for the most part it is not a book of poetry (far be it from me to make such a claim) but a book of verse, limericks, doggerel and prose. Just so long as it brings a smile or a memory.

About the Author

Ralph Hill spent all his working life in the media until retiring with ill health in 1980. Born in 1928 in Leeds, Yorkshire, he joined the BBC first as a trainee engineer before undergoing National Service in the RAF. He then returned to the BBC as an engineer and qualified in audio engineering. In the 1960s, he changed over to program division, finally becoming planning manager (progs) in the North of England, responsible for network TV programs between the Trent and the Tweed. He gave talks on the work of the BBC to clubs and associations all over the North and once gave the yearly Faraday Lecture in Manchester. Having written verse and poetry for as long as he can remember, he now lives and writes quietly in South East Essex.
