The stories in this collection illustrate the presence or intervention of God in His care for me in a variety of situations. Here is a section from the story called “Whirlpool”:
We were traveling by balsa raft. This was made for us at the first village we visited and we had already visited three more schools. Our raft consisted of eight large balsa logs tied firmly together. On top a platform was built at just the level for comfortable sitting. Three sides of the platform had a railing to keep cargo from falling off. All our possessions were stacked on the platform and Harriet and I sat on the open front edge.
Mayan, the school teacher was to be our “pilot” and two older students were along to paddle. It was a beautiful day. We were moving along slowly. As we got closer and closer to the gorge the river seemed to move faster and faster and they all started to paddle harder and harder to keep us in the main current. And then it happened. Our raft hit a rock and swung off into a whirlpool. Paddle as hard they could nothing helped. Round and round we went on the top slanted edge of the circle. The water was coming up over the raft and up over the platform. We were soon soaked. The men were trying desperately to shoot the raft out of the whirlpool. All we could do was hang on tight and pray.

About the Book
My book recounts stories from my sixty-plus years of service and adventure as a Bible translator. Whether I was about to be drowned in a whirlpool in the Peruvian jungle, stranded alone in the African country side, arriving from a flight across the Pacific Ocean only to be told the borders are closed to my destination, or needing to buy a new house, each event shows the presence or intervention of God on my behalf. Some might say it was just a coincidence, but I say it was God.
About the Author
Dr. Mildred “Millie” Larson is a lifetime member of Wycliffe Bible Translators and SIL International. She is a translator, teacher, administrator, and writer. Among her published works is Treasure in Clay Pots, the story of her twenty-five years working with Indians on the Upper Amazon. As an international translation coordinator, she visited many countries as a consultant. Her textbook, Meaning-Based Translation, is used in universities around the world.
