“Just bad nightmares, I can’t get those images out of my mind.” She didn’t want to talk about what she had seen in the lab and tried to forget about it. Most of her memories were so horrific they were blocked for the most part.
“Is it like the ones you told me about before?” He asked.
“Yes, I just keep seeing the attacks, faces, body parts, blood…” Mia couldn’t stop thinking about it as she began to sob.
It was horrible for them both. Tiberius never felt so helpless in his life. He rushed to hold her tight in his arms and whispered to her everything would be alright. Even though he knew it really wouldn’t be. How could it? If his dreams were true he would out live her and he had no idea about his fate, he didn’t want to know or even worse, the fate of their son.
“I’ve got to go to work, I can’t stay here.” Mia went back into the bathroom and got dressed.
Tiberius watched more developments on the restored Soviet Union for a while before getting dressed and going work. He grabbed a uniform with a huge blood stain on it. He closed his eyes for a minute, put his hands to his head, and tried hard to blank out the thoughts that came flooding to his mind, but couldn’t. On her way out Mia grabbed Tiberius and gave him a passionate kiss like she did every morning. She never knew when it would be their last chance to kiss or make love or when their last moment in time would be spent together. It didn’t matter because they both lived each minute as if it were their last.
“Ready?” Tiberius asked Louis.
“Fuck no, but let’s get it on anyway.” He yelled as they took their positions outside the Zombie Lab or ZL as they were called.
Tiberius and Louis stood patiently outside their assigned lab. Adrenaline was already coursing through their veins due to the nature of their job. All guards were essentially in combat mode all the time waiting for something bad to happen. Their normal tour of duty was eight hours while scientist inside the ZL worked on their subjects. Halfway into the session an alarm sounded. It was the signal for Tiberius and Louis to respond to something gone wrong.
“Go.” Tiberius yelled to Louis as he opened the door and rushed in after his partner.
A man dressed in white boxer briefs about five foot eight inches tall was standing in the middle of the ZL. It took just a the few second’s for the zombie to brake free until the scientist could sound the alarm. In those brief three seconds, the prisoner ripped an arm off one man’s body and cornered a second scientists, the third was severely injured and lying on the floor. Louis rushed to put himself between the zombie and the injured woman. As he did the zombie leapt at him and swiped his hand across his face gashing it and breaking his cheek bone and nose.
“Down!” Tiberius yelled at his partner and the other scientist to hit the floor while he took aim at the prisoner. Louis tried to fire his weapon, but started to lose consciousness and fell to the ground.
“Eat this mother fucker…” Tiberius fired his laser weapon at the prisoner’s head decapitating him immediately. Tiberius rushed to help his friend but the zombie struck Louis hard enough that the blunt force trauma caused him to die almost instantly after he fell to the ground.
“ZL 6 is secure, send in the recovery crew. I’m sorry my friend, looks like today was your day.” Tiberius said as he kneeled down to hold him in his arms until the medics arrived.
