About the Book

Raven’s Roost is a story about Halloween. A mother and her three children relocate to a small town on the eastern seaboard to be closer to her parents and sister who live in the small town. It is fall and Halloween is fast approaching. The relocated children become friends with the two little boys who live next door to them. The two little boys harbor a dark secret about the old house on top of a hill called Raven’s Roost. The two little boys have already discovered a secret cave and tunnel under the old house and they believe from what they have discovered that the house is haunted. There is further evidence that something mysterious is going on up at the old house and the children believe it is haunted. A mysterious floating light appears sometime after dark and there are sounds coming from the top of the hill that suggests a ghost does live at the house. The children set out to discover exactly what is going on up at the old house. On Halloween night they sneak off to go up to the old ‘haunted’ house under the guise of trick or treating the occupants of the house if there are any. Much to the dismay of the children’s parents, the children have found a gold coin in the cave beneath the old mansion. The children’s plot to trick or treat the house goes awry when a monstrous form appears at the house and an apparent ghost does appear during their Halloween night trip to the house.

About the Author

The authors are parents of five children, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. While not teachers they believe that education in the home plays an important role in grounding children for their long haul through life. They believe that children develop their creative skills and interests at an early age and those skills should be nurtured early on. To insure their children and grandchildren had an opportunity to experience creativity at an early age they began to write stories about them and with them. The idea was to encourage the children to discover new words and ideas from every day events and their interactions with adults and other children to tell a story. When children see their name in print it is much like looking in the mirror to admire one’s self. It is hard to resist. Like most fictional stories there is always a grain of truth to the story. Raven’s Roost is no exception. Raven’s Roost is a fictional story about little children and the adults in their lives, it is also partially true. Some aspects and events in the story actually took place in a small eastern coastal town. Jim and Ann did not start out to be writers of children’s stories. Ann had a long career in industry as a Certified Public Accountant and corporate manager for a major Fortune 500 company. Jim is an Air Force veteran and a human factors engineer. While working for a prestigious research organization he was awarded two US patents.
