About the Book
Love is impossible to understand in its entirety, especially when we are in love with someone else. Distant lover is a walk through three stages of love and how we find ourselves trapped in its grip, struggling to make sense of where to go and how to get there.
About the Author
Gary Mitchell was born in Central Fl. but at the age of 5, moved to North Carolina where he spent a good portion of his childhood. At a very young age, he discovered he enjoyed writing stories and often competed in short story contests for elementary school children. After moving to Miami at the age of 10, his interests in writing shifted from short stories to music. He eventually learned to play the piano and wrote love songs influenced by the material he heard from such greats artists like Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and The Stylistics. Being raised by a single mother, he would often move from place to place, school to school and found it difficult fitting in anywhere. The diversity, however, strengthened his interests and his writing developed. At 15 and in transition to his 3rd school in the same year, he found himself outside and became inspired to write a poem from the images around him. Not long after, he found poetry to go hand in hand with his passion for music and short stories and made it his go to form of expression. In his senior year of high school, he helped produce the Black History musical showcase at a local community park. During that time he also co-wrote a Christmas Play and was the ghostwriter for many local singers. Going back to his roots, he took a hiatus from music and resumed his interests in writing short stories and poetry with his first published collection "Distant Lover".
