About the Book
This story came to me as I lay awake in bed one night. I believe it was given to me by my Heavenly Father. When I got up the next morning I started writing as if He was dictating it to me.
About the Author
Carl Schaffer recently turned 90 years of age and has been writing down his thoughts and stories for several years. The only son in a family of girls, he has known hard work on a farm and the heartache of his mother’s death when he was 14. World War 2 took him far away and he survived a forced airplane landing on the Pacific Ocean (that’s another story). After coming home, he met his wife on a blind date and they were married for over 60 years when she relocated to heaven. A carpenter and master gardener, Carl is dearly loved by his family. Carl enjoys a close relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ, and loves studying the Bible. This is what he has to say about Donkey and the Eagle: “This story came to me in the middle of the night. It impressed me so much that I got up in the morning and started writing as if it was dictated to me by a higher power.” I had my daughter read it, but it lay around for about three years. It was as if a voice kept telling me “I gave you this story – do something with it.” My three daughters encouraged me to consider getting it published. They helped find a publisher and represented me through the entire process – questions, emails, illustrations and more. As you read the story, it starts out with one needing help and being helped and gaining a close relationship. The whole story is based on the principles that Christ taught in the Bible. It speaks to family, relationships, and love for one another. The Eagle in this story depicts the love of Jesus for everyone.
