DINOSAURS
Dinosaurs were awesome,
Dinosaurs were cool,
But they weren't very smart,
And they didn't go to school!
Dinos lived on every continent,
From north to south and east to west,
Some were herbivores, some carnivores,
Eating plants or meat on their food quest!
They lived in the Mesozoic Era,
Many different dino types were their peers,
In the prehistoric "age of reptiles"
The meat-eating dinos created fears!
NO WAY, KING GEORGE!
No way, King George, no way!
We don't like what you say!
Your rulings are unfair,
And you don't even care!
We're tired of housing your troops,
And jumping through all your hoops!
We'll no longer listen to you,
And if we want, we'll move west too!
We hate all your enforced acts,
'Cause they're unjust - they're not pacts!
And starting from this very day,
Your unfair taxes, we won't pay!
We don't like anything you do!
We want to separate from you!
The Boston Tea Party was small,
Our revolution will be your fall!
So, no way, King George, no way!
We're going to disobey,
And fight for our new, free nation!
There is no negotiation!
THE COLONIES DECLARE THEIR INDEPENDENCE
The colonies wanted emancipation,
So Tom Jefferson wrote a declaration.
Ben Franklin and John Adams worked on it too,
They helped Tom to make changes when it was through.
Then it was read to the Congress piece by piece,
The long discussions and disputes didn't cease.
They rephrased some parts and deleted others,
All debating until they got their druthers.
Fifty-six men then signed the declaration
About the rights of men and liberation.
Seventeen seventy-six - Fourth of July,
The day the colonies told England "good-bye"!
CALIFORNIA'S GOLD RUSH
Gold nuggets were found in California in eighteen forty-eight,
And within one year this news spread everywhere at a shocking rate.
Prospective gold miners traveled by sea and through the rough terrain,
Dreaming of becoming wealthy with the gold they hoped to obtain.
By the end of 1849, many thousands panned for gold,
They were called the "49ers," who could become rich, they were told.
California's Gold Rush was at its peak by eighteen fifty-two,
Then gold seekers gradually declined, and some went back home too.
PRESIDENT ABRAHAM LINCOLN
You were "The Great Emancipator" with unique appeal, Abraham Lincoln;
Preserving the Union and freeing the slaves was what you were deeply thinkin'!
A Civil War Union leader, as 16th President of the United States;
You didn't live long enough to see it, but you were one of America's greats!
HE HAD A DREAM
He had a dream, he had a dream
Of peace between all races!
He had a dream, he had a dream
Of smiling, happy faces!
He had a dream, he had a dream
Of nonviolence for all!
He had a dream, he had a dream
Of Black Americans standing tall!
He had a dream, he had a dream
Of the end to segregation!
He had a dream, he had a dream
Of no more indignation!
He had a dream, he had a dream
Of justice in everything!
He had a dream, He had a dream-
Dr. Martin Luther King!

A big celebration on the Fourth of July!
