Dark Love Who stole the laughter Who swept up the smiles I feel it returning I have done for miles The storm isn’t helping My collar’s upturned But I am still smarting From the lesson I learned Your voice it still whispers It’s here in my head Of course I remember The words that you said A look etched with acid Thrown straight in my face You made it quite clear I don’t belong in this place Now thunder it crashes And knocks at the door The lightning a witness To what’s been before Don’t judge me too harshly Slow count up to ten I said things would change But I don’t know when But the Devil it courts you He’s there in your eye You’re hurt and you’re crying Did I just hear a sigh? I’m not fooled by your anger Or your crocodile tears You’ve been wearing a chip On your shoulder for years So that’s it then, it’s over Do whatever you will I’m a target; that’s easy Now I’m paying the bill But your lies have no substance Smoke and mirrors, that’s all Don’t you see the tide turning? It is you that will fall There it is then; a warning It’s a message for all Dark love is a monster Don’t wait for its call It will strike like a viper Fill your head with disease Then destroy all your hopes As you fall to your knees

About the Book
My Poet Tree reflects my personal journey through life expressed in verse From the consequences of war in Painted In Red to the emotional turmoil of lost love in Crippled Smiles. We cross a landscape where the frailty of age is captured in Of Our Lives. Then we pause for a moment to consider the guilt or innocence in This Cell My Prison, before moving on to the fragile state of this planet in I Challenge The Day. there are many twists and emotions that are examined throughout the book an example being We Wear It Well. Occasionally we stop to smile as in There’s An Elephant In My Garden. Before dipping in to memories of childhood as revisited in There’s A Secret In My Cupboard. Then we leave behind the absurdity of imagined horror in Reaper; to slip into self-awareness in Made Of Stone. Along the way we will relive the terror of an ocean storm in The Sinking Of The Santa Fe. Then move to a poem titled That’s My Life, an attempt to understand the things that motivate the way we are. Included is a tribute to a great poet in An Ode To Edgar Allan Poe. So I welcome you to join me, and share the experiences and memories that is My Poet Tree
About the Author
Mike Carter lives and works in a small town in theIndustrial heart of Nottinghamshire. Growing up,he was surrounded by lace mills, canals, and rolling fields On leaving school, Mike fulfilled a childhood ambition to join the armed forces and first developed an interest in writing during long winter nights in Germany. On returning to the United Kingdom, he worked in the medical profession for a number of years before finally takingup a m Management position in the field of Health andSafety. Mike’s interest in writing led to the publishing of a children’s book and a trilogy of horror novels The Crawford Chronicles featuring fictional detective DCI Stan Crawford.
