My Friend Michael by Tashya Harris is about teaching children about Autism in a friendly way. A young 8 year old boy and his new friend Michael who happens to have Autism. At just 8 years old he realizes their differences but also notices they have even more in common. He realizes how much of a great friend Michael is. The book is about showing children how to accept differences and embrace them, be yourself. We should always accept people for who they are and get to know them. My Friend Michael points out small differences but also shows how even with Michael's Autism they have even more in common and become best friends.
About the Author
Tashya Harris is a mother of a young boy who is a joy to be around. She believes that innocence is something that all children possess. She stresses the need for knowledge at a young age where children learn and love educational engagement. All children are different and all children are special. She believes teaching at a young age it will break barriers and provide comfort in all situations when confronted. She strives to help parents have ease in educating their children in differences. She hopes her books will start a worldwide trend of education. Her books are easy reads for when children start to read or parents can read them to their children. Her books do not come from research but from love and experience as a mother of a child with Aspergers.
