From the time Mayimouna Abou is a young girl, she works hard and harbors high ambitions to succeed; she dreams of becoming a powerful attorney. Despite growing up poor, Mayi’s determination comes to fruition. During her university schooling, she meets Jean-Louis Paquita, a remarkable, handsome, high-level public servant. Both enviable African young elites, Mayi and Jean-Louis marry and have three, sweet intelligent children along with professional success. In the beginning, their relationship seems to be filled with an exceptional and lasting bliss. But Mayi’s growing fame as a lawyer is at odds with Jean-Louis; he doesn’t want to lose his beloved wife. He stoops to unspeakable acts, including using his children, to control Mayi and keep her by his side. Mayi discovers the betrayal, and she is filled with anger, pain, and utter disappointment. She wonders if she’ll ever be able to forgive her husband. Through the characters of Mayi and Jean-Louis, the novel, The Neverending Love reveals the complex emotions of love in human beings, a state that can be absolutely wonderful, but definitely unpredictable and sometimes very painful.
About the Author
J. Mary Dietch’ studied literature and earned a degree in private law. She lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her two children while accompanying her husband around the world in his missions as a consultant in the oil industry. Dietch’ speaks English, French, and Spanish.
