The closet was cold and dark. Day after day, Chuck and Buddy sat alone talking to each other about their gift. They dreamed of the day when a boy would come for them,and at last they would be able leave the closet and go out into the world . Chuck and Buddy have lived together in their shoe box home for a long time. Their grand-daddy Brogan and his partner Mr. Black had lived in the closet with them, until the day they had to go away with their old friend Papa Wilson. Grand-daddy Brogan and Mr. Black were old and very wise, even for shoes of their rather large size. They were shiny and black all over, even their strings. Very few people know this but, shoes have always had the ability to talk to each other and understand people. Grand-daddy Brogan and Mr. Black were the first of their kind. They were very special, they could actually talk with Papa Wilson.

About the Book
Chuck and Buddy inherit a very special gift from their granddaddy Brogan and his partner, Mr. Black. Few people know this, but shoes have always been able to talk to each other and understand humans. Chuck and Buddy find out that David has the ability to talk back to them. The three of them become great friends. They use this new gift to help a sad little girl who has lost her voice. Chuck, Buddy, and David want to help as many people as they can, and together they go on their first of many grand adventures.
