More Animals of the Old Testament

A very long time ago, in fact it was well over 2000 years ago; there lived a very nasty, sneaky, green striped snake named Sargon. Sargon lived in the beautiful Garden of Eden. But Sargon was not happy enough to just live in the garden with all the other wonderful creatures of God. Sargon liked to climb into the beautiful tree, called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and spy on the other creatures including Adam and Eve. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was the most beautiful tree in the whole garden. Sargon had heard God tell Adam and Eve that they were allowed to eat the fruit from any of the other trees in the garden, but they must never eat the fruit from the special tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Sargon was always playing nasty tricks on the other animals of the Garden of Eden and he knew he would be able to play a really nasty trick on Adam or Eve. Sargon watched Adam and Eve for days from the branches of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Adam and Eve were being very kind to all of the many creatures of God in the garden, but did not want to be near Sargon. One day, Sargon slithered quietly up to Adam and Eve and asked why they did not want to be near to him. Adam told Sargon that he and Eve weren’t happy with all the nasty tricks Sargon was playing on the other creatures. That made Sargon want to play a nasty trick on Adam and Eve even more! Sargon watched Adam and Eve for days and wondered how he could trick them, and then one day, while Eve was under the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he knew just what he wanted to do! “Eve,” said Sargon, “I’m sorry that you are have been unhappy with the tricks I have been playing on the creatures in the Garden of Eden. I want to be nice from now on.” “Oh,” said Eve, “I’m very happy to hear that.” “I would like you to be the first of God’s creatures that I do something very nice for.” said Sargon, and he smiled at Eve from a branch of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. “Thank you,” Eve said “I am so glad you chose me!” “Eve,” Sargon said, “I would like to invite you to taste the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” “Oh, no!” said Eve “God has told us that we must never eat from this tree!” “But I’m sure that you did not understand what God was telling you.” replied Sargon. “I’m sure that what God meant was that if you ate this, that you would also know the difference between good and evil, the same as God himself!” “Are you quite sure?” asked Eve. “Of course!” said Sargon. “Think of how helpful you would be to God, if you also truly knew the difference between good and evil.” “I don’t know.” Eve said, “Are you playing a trick on me?” “I told you I wanted to do something nice.” Sargon replied. “Please take one of these fruits and try it. I have also heard that it is quite delicious! You must share it with Adam.” Eve then picked the most delicious looking of all of the fruit on the tree that she could reach and hurried to Adam to share it. “Adam,” Eve said, as she took a bite “This is the most delicious fruit I have ever tasted in the garden! Please have a bite.” Adam took the fruit from Eve and tasted it. He had to agree that it was the most delicious fruit he had ever tasted! “It’s from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” said Eve. Just then, Adam and Eve heard God walking through the garden looking for them and they were very afraid, so they hid behind a bush. “Did you eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?” asked God when he saw Adam and Eve hiding. “Yes, but Eve gave it to me.” Adam said. “But the snake tricked me!” said Eve. “Sargon,” said God, “Because of your nasty trick, you will always crawl the earth on your belly.” Then he turned to Adam and Eve and said, “You did not do as you were told! You must leave this beautiful garden and never come back!”
