This is several historical accounts. My instructor first held up porcelain dish and asked what this was. The answer: China. Then he told us to write on when a well-educated European could know about China. So we had to get English and Iberian sailors across the seas, the Atlantic and, after Panama, the Pacific. The primary Europeans getting to China were Christian missionaries. Meanwhile Russian explorers had moved east, over land. So Americans and Russians competed for political dominance and trade. The competition was over prominence in the Amur River watershed of Siberia. And the conflict was with the Ch'ing Dynasty, Manchu, Chinese. Settlement was the Treaty of Nerchinsk,

About the Book
The book is about several semester essays he consolidated in pursuit of a MA degree at The American University some 45 years ago. He found them on a shelf in his library. And at that time he was in the Pentagon as aide to the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff. However that does not justify saying that the book's background was the Bay of Pigs!
About the Author
George Carrington came from a privileged background and a serious and good education. He likes to say that before Pearl Harbor's attack by the Japs, he was a NROTC candidate because he wanted to know how to navigate his own yacht before he had a yacht. He had a military career which included WW II. Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
