About the Book

Creation of Lifestyle seeks to engage readers and students (current and future) of architecture with the subject of creating a specific lifestyle using building construction to fashion the requisite environment and the connection to good, satisfying architecture. It will also enlighten individuals, who intend to build their personal dream house, why their proposed lifestyle should be integrated to create the design. It contains a comparative analysis of similar plans, lifestyles at varied social levels; additionally, the process and procedure administered during the construction to achieve excellence. Readers will completely appreciate a fresh and accurate perspective of what makes architecture successful. For example, Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison, a UNESCO world heritage site, including the Barbados National Trust Open House programme, provide a clear illustration of the link between the Barbadian vernacular and the classical European tradition that created our built environment. http://www.michaeljordanassociatesarchitectsbb.com/

About the Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR The author of Creation of Lifestyle, Michael Jordan shares his knowledge with those interested in architecture. Having grown up in Barbados with his mother, Elaine, and father, Byron Jordan an agriculturist, Michael attended the Combermere School in the 1960s. There, he was educated in the Arts, Latin and later attended the Technical Institute, as a day-relief student to study Advance Geometrical Drawing and Machine Shop Theory and Practice – here, the elite meets the layman. His working life began as a Draftsman at the Natural Gas Corporation where he worked, maintaining plans for the underground network of gas mains. Michael then moved to the Land Valuation Department as assistant valuer, surveying and preparing the Barbados legal cadastral map. Michael worked for Captain Kenneth J. Tomlin, architect of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 1960-64. He gained invaluable knowledge, experience, and confidence working under Captain Tomlin. With this newfound confidence, he launched out on his own, doing house plans and Plan copying. He got a testimonial from the Captain to attend the University of Westminster formerly the Regent Street School of Architecture Polytechnic of central London, England. Michael came under the tutelage of Mr. James Madge and the Greek architect, Dr. Demetri Porphyrios, Professors of History and Theory at the Polytechnic in Central London. They took the students to Vienna on a study tour to analyse the great buildings of the Ringstrasse and the Hapsburg Gallery, and visit the architectural sites in Rome including Villa d’Este at Tivoli. On returning to Barbados, he opened Michael Jordan Associates and the Technical Evening Institute. Later, Michael worked for the Education Project Office in 1991 as the Consulting Architect for the Lester Vaughan Secondary School, became a member of the Barbados Institute of Architects, and subsequently registered with the Architects Registration Board.
