As I discuss the national trend to move most college education to adjunct teachers, I will weave in my story along with the stories of my adjunct colleagues. I will explain how that effects those paying for college, and I will do so in the following chapters: Chapter I. The reason adjuncts are used or, Would you mind working with no contract for 2 weeks and for free for 4 weeks? Chapter II. Adjuncts at 4-year colleges vs. 2-year, or How many types of learning disabilities can you teach at the college level? Chapter III. Adjuncts as worse than scabs, or My first faculty meeting. Chapter IV. Adjuncts and the Mobile Office, or Do you have a stapler in that briefcase? Chapter V. The tenured vs. the great unwashed masses. Chapter VI. The competition among colleagues, or If I share my ideas, you’ll steal my classes. Chapter VII. The reason a lot of adjuncts dress like bums. (Sorry guys, it’s true). Chapter VIII. Safety issues and blood in the hallway or, Should I risk my life for this when I don’t get disability insurance? Chapter IX. Full disclosure; I’m great at this but not making any more than when I sucked. Chapter X Trying to make a difference, being threatened by your boss for it, and yes, I have his threats in writing!

About the Book
Who knew that most college professors do not make a living wage and that impacts college educations! Second-Class Professor explores the misuses of financial aid, the way most professors work for free, the safety issues affecting them, and how they aren't rewarded for good teaching. Issues such as grade-inflation, unhealthy competition among colleagues, and open-enrollment will be explored in a humorous, sometimes startling way. "Second-Class Professor" should spark some national debate and hopefully lead to reform in higher education. Ms. Hurd's book has been praised by her colleagues who are waiting to see the reaction to her insights.
About the Author
Angela Hurd has taught college courses for 16 years at both 2 and 4-year universities and colleges. She has taught in private and state colleges and for-profit schools as well. She is a certified tutor and a frequent guest speaker to local debate teams. She judges high school debate and is occasionally called upon to review local theater presentations. She sings in a worship band and choreographs and directs children's music. Her academic pursuits are balanced by the 5 fitness classes she teaches at a local health club and her many outdoor pursuits. She resides in Ohio with her husband and two sons.
