Book Synopsis “My Hair is Fluffy” is a fictional, multicultural story geared towards little girls around the world. The little girl in the story becomes embarrassed about the texture of her hair after noticing how others secretly look on while her hair is being combed. She cries after being stared and laughed at for having a thick, full, Afro-centric head of hair. This is a wonderful book that helps little girls become aware not only of the different types of hair, but the ethnic and racial composition of a community. It focuses on their inner beauty and their uniqueness. They realize that it’s OK to be different and sends a positive message to all the little girls: “No matter what’s around you, celebrate who you are. Remember your roots and the wonderful gift of being unique individuals.” This book with its happy ending is a wonderful vessel to promote a more positive self-image among our young children.
