The Things that Cross my Mind

THE WOMEN INSIDE

Outwardly is that all you see
Surely that is not all of me
I am more than great looks
I am more than a walking book
I am more than the touch I give
Or the glamorous life I live
What! I already know how beautiful I am
Oh! But all you see is what is outside of me
The woman inside is what makes me
She makes me strong, loving, kind and gentle
She makes me shine, glad, beautiful, and rare
The women inside is worth a lot
She is secure, confident, gifted and smart
My self-esteem, my self-worth, my self-control
Is what causes me to walk with my head up and back straight
I am unique, you see, not like any other
Oh, did I forget to mention the most important thing about the inside of me?
God’s Holy Spirit is there
And He is leading and guiding me everywhere
You see, I am complete because of God
So while you look outside, God looks inside
Because that is who I really am
The woman inside is what makes me
The outside is just a shell you see
Look deeper and see the woman inside of me

Political
Hypocritical
They say they are for the people
As they attend the building with the steeple
Their words we did believe
Not knowing their agenda was to deceive
To gain their seat in the house
While treating us like an abused spouse
From a vote we did cast
Did we not learn from the past?
What has changed? Are we still the same?
Do the stripes of prejudice still remain?
Why can’t we all just get along?
For the good of one another, and right this wrong?
Stop secretly wanting inequality
While before the people, standing up for equality
So much time is lost
The bickering and fighting has really cost
This internal war
We all abhor
How far will it go?
How much hate will one sow?
Will we ever fight together?
So all will get better
Becoming
One Nation

A GOOD MAN

A good man that’s who you are
A woman’s dream by far
When a woman thinks of a mate
You are the one that she wishes would ask her on a date
You are made of good stock
Better than Nike’s, Jordan’s and Reebok’s
A good man that’s who you are

A diamond in the ruff
But underneath, all made of good stuff
Molded and fashioned by GOD
When the angels saw you, they all had to tilt their head and nod
All the single ladies see you, and their minds scream within
Look at me, pick me is the message their eye contact sends
A good man that’s who you are

You are gifted and smart
Full of love, got a good heart
Strong, full of wisdom
Makes a woman trust your decision
Upstanding gentleman
Opens doors
Pulls out chairs
No wonder you make the women stare
Yeah, a good man that’s who you are

Whether you have a lot or little
You make it work
Never acting like a jerk
Too creative to go unnoticed
When you enter the room
Hearts begin to go boom, boom
Not just because of what they see on the outside
Or what they see you drive
They discern the goodness of God
All around you
How you make it do what it do
So, I shout aloud!
I know you make your mother proud
A good man that’s who you are

CHANGE MY MIND

What must change for things to be different?
My mind must change.
The way I think must change.
That is why I am in a mess
I keep trying to do the same things the same way

Lord change my mind
So I can begin to walk in the newness of life
And walk into my destiny

Your word says that we are transformed
By the renewing of our mind

God, renew my mind
And transform me into what I am purposed to be.
Away with the old stale way of thinking

Lord, help me to refocus my mind 
Begin to think like a winner
Think like a person with purpose
Think like a champion
Act like a conqueror
One who will finish the race
A person of great faith
