About the Author
Jackie Navielle was born and raised in Oakland, California. She grew up in a divided home, visiting her father but spending most of her youth under her mothers diligent care. Her development as a artist began when she was in elementary school. Often reprimanded for doodling and daydreaming, Jackie was forced to find a way to cultivate her vibrant imagination and implement it into her studies. She did this by writing and illustrating papers and assignments, sometimes even composing music to accompany them. However, support for her creativity was limited and although her teachers felt she was on the road to success, others wanted her to follow a more clear-cut path. And so Jackie tucked her creativity away, although still doodling and developing her drawing, she chose to write for herself and never allow others to see or judge the stories which flooded her mind. During her Senior year at Santa Fe University of Art and Design, her instructors were introduced to a short story she had written and allowed her to intern under a writer who just so happened to be Mrs. Geraldine Edwards - Hollis. Being such an accomplished and knowledgeable author herself and also the grandmother of Jackie Navielle, their time together and efforts lead to the completion of "The Girl in the Pink Beret Who Sits Alone and Thinks in Silence" the first official book written and illustrated by Jackie Navielle in 2014.
