However, he only sees one side of the story. It is Sludgefoot, the king and leader of the whitetails that completes the extraordinary journey of peril and survival the young man witnesses and is read in these pages. This begins the story of both the hunter and hunted and an epic tale of adventure and heartbreak. These two points of view describe the events that led up to a fateful encounter in 1980 Kentucky that can make one’s liver quiver with excitement!

About the Author

David Drennan is currently a high school English teacher at Union County High School in Morganfield, Kentucky. He is also the director of the Little Caesar Rodney Foundation, an organization that is based on his clown character and benefits community education projects and initiatives. Through these activities, Drennan works with a variety of students, including elementary, middle, and high school students. He also has taught math to nontraditional students at Madisonville Community College. Drennan, as well as his father and brother, enjoy hunting and being outdoors. “Sludgefoot” was originally published as a seven-week newspaper column in Marion and Henderson, Kentucky, in the summer of 2013 and 2014.
