Her desire to write books for young readers came while working with children who face a variety of social issues that are not addressed in a format appropriate for them in many of todays books. In this, her second book, she addresses the death of a grandparent. Michelle and her grandfather, W.C., share a special bond that is broken when he becomes ill and passes away. Valerie and her husband, Silas, reside in the District of Columbia. She is currently pursuing a degree in psychology from the University of the District of Columbia. Her goal is to become a licensed psychologist and assist children in working through their emotions associated with having gone through traumatic events.
