About the Book
The Life of Henry V continues the epic story of Richard II; Henry IV, Part One; and Henry IV, Part Two. In the Life of Henry V, Prince Hal has matured and left behind the carefree days of his youth, divorcing himself from Falstaff and his ilk and assuming the leadership of England following the death of his fa-ther. He is revealed as a serious candidate for rulership, someone who has, in actuality, been preparing himself for this role. Memorable scenes in the Life of Henry V include the St. Crispin’s address, the wooing of Katherine, and those including Fluellen, who comes to represent true British loyalty. The Life of Henry V could be said to represent the apotheosis of the history plays, Shakespeare at his best in revisiting British history and elevating it to a form of national reverence.
