About the Author
Zalika Hadiya, born in Brooklyn and raised in Harlem, is a proud native New Yorker. When she left New York, she was college bound for Virginia Union University. A short while later, she transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University, where she soon graduated with a bachelor of science in psychology, and a masters in teaching. After years of teaching pre-school and elementary-aged children, she decided to go back to school to earn a second masters, this time in education leadership. Zalika has always held a passion for teaching and learning. At her kindergarten graduation from St. Benedict’s nursery in Harlem she held up the T in the word graduation and proclaimed, “When I grow up I want to be a teacher.” By the grace of God, she has been doing just that for sixteen years now and counting. Zalika has been married to her supportive husband, Darrell, for twenty years, and they are raising their four children, Darrell Jr., Yien, Omre, and Yves. Her love of reading, vocabulary, and everything literacy, was instilled in her at a young age by her mother, Linda. Zalika is currently pursuing her doctorate in curriculum and instruction. She believes that with God, nothing shall be impossible. It is with that assertion that she continues to move forward.
