About the Book

CHAUCER’S SURPRISE IN THE PARK is based upon the real life adventure of an inquisitive little girl named Grace and a lovable little dog named Chaucer. Grace LOVES bugs, Grace LOVES Chaucer, and Grace LOVES to visit new parks. All of these things are woven into the story, CHAUCER’S SURPRISE IN THE PARK. Grace was excited about taking her grandparents to a new park her father had recently told her about. Like most parks, this park had walking paths, swings and slides, and lots of trees, flowers, and, of course, bugs! Grace liked to play in parks, but she also liked to learn about new things. A newspaper article Grandpa read told about people who would bring exhibits to the park and teach about them to park visitors. “Now that would really be a fun way to learn new things,” Grace whispered to Chaucer. Chaucer, Grace, Mother and Father, and Grandma and Grandpa visited the new park. What happened when they got there was a big surprise! The author invites you to enjoy the wonderful world of imagination as Grace and Chaucer travel through the park, never suspecting what, or who, they will meet. CHAUCER’S SURPRISE IN THE PARK is the fourth book in author Lynn E. Lensmire’s book series, “Tails” by Chaucer. CHAUCER’S TOY BOX, CHAUCER’S FAVORITE PLACE, and CHAUCER GOES TO THE DOCTOR complete the series.

About the Author

About the Author Lynn E. Lensmire has loved writing and drawing since she was a little girl using blunt pencils and broken crayons. That love of writing grew as she did, and the world around her became her inspiration. Sparkling stars twinkled special messages, rainbows sent colorful hugs, and snow covered trees whispered quietly as they sheltered animals from the cold. Nature spoke and Lynn listened. Lynn shared that love with her children, her grandchildren, and thousands of school children as she taught them to write their own stories. Now, happily retired, she is writing children’s books. The stories are told through the voice of her lovable little dog, Chaucer, who, through sharing his own experiences, helps children understand more about themselves and the world around them. About the Illustrator Denise Mattice grew up on a farm in central Wisconsin, where there were many animals and bugs to catch her imagination. Largely a self-trained artist, she draws her inspiration from the natural world, and her paintings feature regional flora and fauna. She is also a prolific crafter, inventively illustrating a range of found objects including leaves, rocks, driftwood, saws, turkey feathers, and more. Denise’s work can be found on display each year at the Art in the Park festival in Wausau, WI; a collaborative mural can be seen at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and murals at several local elementary schools and private homes. Painting brings Denise to a peaceful place where she can let her imagination soar. Denise and her husband have two grown children and two grandchildren. Denise can often be found camping, hiking, and exploring the outdoors.
