Running a business with your family can be deeply fulfilling and wildly successful. But it rarely starts out that way. Moving through the mess and getting to the good requires intentional decision making and courageous examination. Author Jacqueline Carlisle wants to help you do just that. After dealing with the challenges that stunted her family’s business for years, Carlisle developed a transformative approach to uncovering deep-seated challenges within a family’s business entity and their relationships with one another. She codified this approach to help other families do the same, encouraging families to be intentional from the start to build businesses that bear good fruit for a lifetime.

About the Author

Jacqueline Carlisle is an author who never planned to write a book. She spent most of her professional career playing an integral role in building her family’s business – a nonprofit organization that advocates for affordable housing in Oakland, California. Like most who grow up in a family business, Jacqueline rose through the ranks, eventually serving as executive director for ten years. Then, to everyone’s surprise, she left. She recognized the shortcomings in her family’s business and set out to learn how to address them. The process that she used to uncover and examine the deep-seated challenges that had become embedded in her family’s entity was transformative – it opened her eyes to her true needs and those of the business. Jacqueline discovered her passion for helping other family businesses engage in this type of thoughtful examination, which drove her to write this book and embrace this calling.
