About the Author
Dr. Nancy Devlin is a psychologist, educator, author, and lecturer. For twelve years, her column, “Today’s Parents,” addressed education and family issues and appeared weekly in New Jersey’s Star Ledger. She has also written for the Princeton Packet Newspapers. Dr. Devlin is a licensed psychologist, a family therapist, and a nationally certified school psychologist. Her professional history includes teaching elementary school in New York City, Long Island, and in military-dependent schools in Germany, Denmark, and Japan. She was a staff member at the Educational Testing Service and lecturer at Rutgers University. She was a psychologist for twenty-two years in the Princeton school system. At present, she is a writer, counseling parents and students and lobbying for better educational systems. She graduated from Hunter College with a degree in English and went on to obtain a master’s degree from Hunter College in guidance and school counseling. She earned a PhD in educational psychology at the University of California–Berkeley. Born in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, Dr. Devlin lives in Philadelphia. She is married to a physicist, and they have three sons.
