About the Author
About the Author Susan Barros and her family lived on neighboring Wilmington Island when Tybee Island still boasted the historic DeSoto Beach Hotel, carnival rides, and a giant waterslide. Susan taught life science in the Chatham County Public Schools and volunteered at St. Andrew’s on the Marsh, teaching science to preschoolers. Susan spends time between Savannah, Georgia, and Amarillo, Texas. Hers is a soul a low-country heart relying on Tybee for inspiration, boiled peanuts, shrimp, and sublime sunrises. About the Illustrator Jana Barros studied visual and performing arts at the Savannah College of Art and Design and worked as first mate on Captain Derek’s Dolphin Magic Boat. She is the former Junior Miss Montana with a lifelong love of music and art. Jana wrote and illustrated her first book, Roseanne Used to Want to Be a Ballerina, at age five. Jana attended St. Andrew’s on the Marsh and St. Michael’s Catholic School on Tybee.
