About the Book
These are poems written to express my emotional state during different parts of my life as I grew up—when I loved, lost, rejoiced, or was saddened by what was in my path of life.
About the Author
Laura has been fighting for her life. She was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and while this book was going through the final editing process, Laura was going though her second, very intense, round of chemotherapy to be followed by a stem-cell transplant to help regrow her bone marrow. Testing revealed that she was in late stage three before she started chemo the second time. Unfortunately, this is far from the first obstacle Laura has had to face in her life. Such adversity has left her with a fighting spirit, a greater appreciation for the simple pleasures in life, and a strong need for self-expression. Over the years, Laura has been writing poetry as a way to process and express her emotions. Helping to care for her granddaughter and losing her fiancé to suicide are just a few of the events that have influenced her writing. At this point, with more than forty-five years of life experiences, Laura has quite a collection of heartfelt poems, many of which she shares in this book. With her grandchildren being so young and her own future so uncertain, it is Laura’s hope that this book will ensure that her grandchildren will be able to know and understand her even if grandma can’t be there to see them through the ups and downs that life will bring. Laura has also taken this opportunity to remember her belated aunt Marilyn, who was also a poet. Marilyn was not able to have her work published during her lifetime. Feeling that those poems are too good to hide away, Laura has included some of them in this book as a way to honor her aunt.
