Isaiah 26:3–4 “Perfect Peace XIII”

The name Jezebel has been used for thousands of years to describe cunning, heartless and deplorable women. Her name is also synonymous with idolaters, prostitutes, and sorcerers. Since her death, she has become legendary. Jezebel did not worship Ahab’s God, Jehovah; she leads Ahab to worship Baal. Jezebel consistently remains true to her own beliefs. This ancient queen has been publicly declared a murderer, prostitute, and an enemy of God. Jezebel is viewed as a woman who is opposite to Ruth the Moabite, who was also a foreigner. She surrenders her identity and submerges herself in Israel ways. Ruth adopts the religious of the Israelites and is widely praised for her conversion to God. Jezebel is not a warrior like Deborah, a loving sister like Miriam or a caring wife like Ruth. Jezebel cannot even be compared to the list of bad girls in the Bible; like Potiphar’s wife or Delilah. These women may be considered evil, but Jezebel is the worst of the worst. The biblical events that surround Jezebel are found in 1 Kings, chapters 16, 18, 19, 21, and 2 Kings chapter 9. In the New Testament, Jezebel’s name is used symbolically as a false prophetess who seeks to lure Christians into idolatrous practice, Revelation 2.
