Let’s get back to the issue of dealing with my rape. I think there’s probably a lot more pain and anger inside yourself than what you feel comfortable dealing with all at once. That’s OK. It’ll come when you’re all ready for it. Remember God’s looking out for me as His desire is for me to have an abundant life (John 10:10).
I’m still angry about the fact that the rape even happened. I also resent the way my parents put the incident on a shelf and never allowed me to deal with the trauma. It’s so hard now as I attempt to work through all these awful memories daily and also keep enough sense about me to manage my present day problems and responsibilities. How much better off I’d probably be now if my parents had gotten me counseling when my rape initially happened. I’m sleepy now and need to go study my GRE stuff now. I’ll write more later.

My writing more later consisted of a letter to God where I vented my thoughts and desire for Him to heal me from the rape. That letter will be included in Chapter 20, Between God and Me.
Today when I think about the rape, the trauma that happened during the rape and its aftermath are nothing in comparison to what my grandfather did to my friends and me. Eventually, the Holy Spirit led me through the process of forgiving my rapist. However, on some level, I think I will always have unanswered questions for him about what and why he did what he did to me. Out of curiosity, a while back I found his profile on Facebook and learned that he too is working in ministry—another example of God’s forgiving and redeeming Grace.

About the Book
In writing Freedom in Truth: Memoirs of Deliverance and Restoration from Past Abuse and Scandal, Michaela Maria Marshall (pseudonym) shares her account of being a victim of rape and incest in her early years, also the witnessing of a murder of a friend by one of her perpetrators who was attempting to molest the murder victim’s little sister. Ms. Marshall also experienced years of physical and emotional abuse.
Freedom in Truth is divided into three sections. The first section deals with Ms. Marshall’s past traumas and losses. Part Two will cover what she considers protective factors in her life. Part Three will include therapeutic letters written by Ms. Marshall but that she never mailed to offenders and victims in her past, as well as to God.
Her purpose in writing Freedom in Truth: Memoirs of Deliverance and Restoration from Past Abuse and Scandal is to follow the Holy Spirit’s direction to enable the principles expressed in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 to be lived out in her life. If by sharing what happened to her will spare other victims experiencing similar incidents from having to be further victimized by families trying to cover up similar tragedies, more concerned about family reputations than the feelings and needs of the victims involved, then her mission has been accomplished.
About the Author
Michaela Maria Marshall under her legal name is a Christian counselor, life coach, and author. In Freedom in Truth: Memoirs of Deliverance and Restoration from Past Abuse and Scandal Ms. Marshall uses both her educational background and her life experiences to reflect what it is like to live as a victim of abuse, to recognize the dysfunctions associated with abuse, and then make the choice to become an overcomer, a survivor of abuse. Through Freedom in Truth Ms. Marshall hopes to encourage other victims to make the choice to break out of denial, to choose the road to healing, and to become overcomers of abuse through Jesus Christ.
