Build Your Financial House

If only one of you is making and sticking to the budget, it's like trying to swim out to sea with the waves hitting you every 3 seconds. You swim a few feet and get thrown back 2 feet. Then you swim 3 more feet and get thrown back 2 to 3 feet. Then every once in a while a big wave comes and you struggle to swim a few feet and get knocked back 10 feet. You will never get anywhere that way. When both partners in a relationship are on board with the budget it's more like having a boat. At first it may be a rowboat, but you are both paddling. Sure every once in a while you will get pushed back a bit by the waves, but eventually as debt gets eliminated, that row boat gets a small motor. Then you chug along a little better and fight through the waves a bit easier. Then eventually as more and more debt gets paid off you get a speed boat and fly right through the waves with very little resistance. Swimming against waves by yourself is hard and takes a long time and lots of energy and you still probably won’t get very far and if you keep doing it for too long you may just get tired and drown. One partner building your financial house with the other not helping is the same and can be mentally draining at times. Both partners rowing together is much easier and will get you into the speedboat much faster.
