About the Book

A charming book about when Braylon and his mom visited the Caribbean island of St. Croix. They enjoyed banana ice cream, strolled through a rainforest, visited the agricultural fair, swam in the turquoise sea, and observed leatherback sea turtle hatchlings. What a spectacular adventure!

About the Author

Dr. Mishka Veira Barnes was born on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Vincent. When she was 2 years old, her family immigrated to the island of St. Croix. St. Croix represents one of the islands of the United States Virgin Islands. The Virgin Islands consist of three islands, St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John. Dr. Barnes obtained a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of the Virgin Islands. She obtained a doctorate in Teaching and Learning from Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia. Now she resides in Atlanta, Georgia, where she serves as a TESOL educator. She is a teacher mentor, an advocate for English Learners, and a conference presenter. She enjoys visiting St. Croix because she is able to reminisce about her childhood and explore the natural beauty of the island. She wanted to share her experiences with her son, Braylon. Hence, that is why she wrote, A Long Journey to Paradise: Braylon’s Island Adventure.
