No One Has More Love Than This...

In the midst of deafening noise, terror, screams of pain from the dead and dying, when the natural inborn reaction is for self-survival, countless individuals pushed those things to the side and sprang forward into the mist of the holocaust to save and protect the fallen, without regard for their personal safety. It seems to defy all logic, but they were driven to these heights of courage by the most powerful force in the universe, love. The brotherly love shared by the combat soldier of all wars which they alone will ever know. No one could have predicted these seemingly ordinary kids possessed the inner strength or wherewithal to ever be capable of such exceptional heroism. The examples recorded in this book are only a glimpse of the countless acts of selflessness and brotherly love Jesus himself first demonstrated on the cross of Calvary. Where do these men come from and how does America continue to produce the extraordinary men and women who are willing to lay down their own life for the good of their country and their fellow man? The author does not pretend to have an answer for this question, but the answer lies somewhere in our Christian heritage as Americans. Love and only love can motivate ordinary men to these extraordinary heights of courage. In the decades since our war was over, a grateful nation has at last recognized our service and welcomed us home with honor and respect. We loved each other so much we would lay down our lives for our comrades; however, the greatest challenge remains before us, and that is to let go of the guilt we carry with us each day as survivors and learn to love and forgive ourselves.
