The 20th verse in Matthew 24, is where the word “winter” is embedded. It reads, “And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath.” Scholars believe the reason to pray that your flight will not be in winter is that the winter days are short, unfit for long journeys, and roads are impassable. During this season, a person might encounter heavy snow, or floodwaters, making it difficult to travel, escape, or find shelter.
