Cassie Lewett liked to day dream. Cassie’s day dreams took her to faraway places, like Broadway and Hollywood. Cassie imagined being an actor, and a singer and a dancer, which is also known as a triple threat. Every night before bed, Cassie and her mom would sing together. They would call it the “The Lewett Duet.” Cassie and her mom each held a hair brush and sang into the bathroom mirror. They would snap and clap and dance as they sang. They had their own special routines planned out. Then Cassie and her mom would perform their pretend talk show, “Talking with the Lewetts.” Cassie’s mom would interview Cassie about her next movie role and her new number one song. “What is it like to be a famous movie star, Cassie?” Cassie spoke into her hairbrush microphone,“Oh wonderful, wonderful. I want to say ‘Hello’ to all my adoring fans!” After the talk show, Cassie went to bed and had more dreams about being a performer. Every morning on the school bus, Cassie would recite a poem, but only in her head, so no one else could hear. Every day in the lunch line, Cassie would hum a song. One day while Cassie was humming, Ashley Harris turned around and said to Cassie “What are you doing?” Cassie quickly stopped humming, looked down at her feet, and said, “Oh…nothing. That wasn’t me.” Even though Cassie sang songs every night, created her own dances and was one half of “The Lewett Duet”, this was a secret to almost everyone in the world. This was because Cassie had stage fright. Stage fright, stage fright, stage fright. Cassie wouldn’t act, or sing, or dance or recite poetry in front of anyone, but her mom. Cassie felt like she was special, like there was something different about her, like her talents would take the world by storm! But there was one problem…stage fright. Cassie tried to audition for the fall play at her school and that’s when her stage fright hit.

About the Book
Lights, Camera, Action: It’s Cassie Lewett! Cassie Lewett and her mom love to do their pretend show “The Lewett Duet” at home. Cassie likes to imagine that she’s on stage... singing, acting, and dancing. She wants to perform on a real stage, but there is just one problem: Cassie has stage fright. With the help of loving family members and good friends, Cassie works on making her dream of being on the stage come true!
About the Author
Debbie Cohen has always loved drama and theatre. For twelve years, she was a middle school drama teacher, directing and producing large scale productions. She also led drama clubs and improvisation groups in which students learned theatre games, bonded over a love of drama, and participated in small workshop performances. Debbie is excited to share Lights, Camera, Action: It’s Cassie Lewett! In the hopes of inspiring readers to take risks in order to make their dreams come true. Debbie now teaches reading and writing to middle schoolers and particularly enjoys seeing their voices come through as they grow their confidence as independent writers. Debbie would like to dedicate this book to her mother who instilled a love of the arts in her, and to her daughter who she hopes will always face life with joy, tenacity, and a willingness to try new things.
