About the Author

A native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina and a graduate of Elizabeth City State University, Karen S. White retired from the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County public school system as a purchasing specialist. Ms. White is married to Turner White, Jr. with two sons and six grandchildren between the ages of 5 and 19. Her special love for children started with being the youngest of seven children and spending precious time with nieces and nephews. Professionally, her compassion for children grew stronger when she worked as a kindergarten teacher’s assistant for three years. Since retirement, being a substitute teacher in the local public schools is the logical and enjoyable way to sum up her career in the area of education. Ms. White knows that reading to a child is essential, both for the child and the reader. Reading to her grandchildren inspired her even more to write her own book. She hopes her writing will be enjoyed by children everywhere and by adults who can remember that they were once children, too. “Children never cease to amaze me!”
